AWS Migration for Okelani Digital

Company Description and Problem

Okelani Digital helps leading brands create impactful digital products that improve millions of lives. They achieve this by leveraging the talent pool from African cities, which offer a high quality of life, low cost of living, and proximity to universities, resulting in happy employees and industry-leading retention rates.

Okelani Digital requires a like-for-like migration of workloads from an existing AWS account to a new AWS account, ensuring seamless data transfer and environment replication. This involves meticulously migrating their critical workloads (e.g., RDS database, EKS workloads) to the new account, while simultaneously setting up a mirrored environment within that account. This new environment requires the creation of an EKS cluster and an RDS database with identical specifications and configurations to the originals.

Disraptor, with its expertise in cloud migrating and AI/ML technologies, was tasked by Okelani Digital to undertake a strategic migration of their cloud infrastructure from an existing AWS account to the new AWS Account. The project’s goals were clear: Migrate Okelani Digital’s workloads to a new AWS account with minimal downtime, ensuring an identical mirrored environment for seamless operation.

The migration strategy included several key phases:

  • Discovery and Planning: Conducting a comprehensive review of Okelani Digital’s existing AWS environment, workloads, and services to devise a tailored migration plan that minimizes downtime and disruption.
  • Optimization and Migration: Identifying opportunities for optimization during the migration process, including the adoption of serverless architectures, containerization with Amazon EKS, and leveraging AWS managed services for databases.
  • Security and Compliance: Ensuring the new AWS environment adheres to the highest standards of security and compliance, critical for a digital company handling sensitive customer data.

The Okelani Digital’s AWS Migration resulted in these transformative outcomes:

  • Foundation for Future Optimization: While the immediate focus is on replication, the new AWS environment lays the groundwork for future optimizations. Okelani Digital can leverage the new account to explore serverless architectures, containerization with EKS, and managed database services to potentially improve scalability, performance, and cost-efficiency.
  • Improved Manageability: The new account provides a clean slate for the organization and improved manageability of Okelani Digital’s AWS resources.
